West Empire

West Empire

With his camera, Mathieu Le Lay visits American towns, desolate for many years. Over time, those who settle in them are people tired with city life – freebooters, artists, peculiar chroniclers and simple loners. They call themselves refugees looking for escape from the urban hustle and bustle. Each of them perceives time in another way but all agree on the beauty of the landscape surrounding them. They value the peace and shelter they can find in the heart of the Californian desert. They are self-sufficient.
