Jonah in the Whale's Belly

Jonah in the Whale's Belly

The film is a documentary portrait of Jonasz Kofta, a brilliant poet and insightful commentator of the reality of communist Poland. In the lens of the camera held by Krzysztof Wierzbicki, an assistant to Krzysztof Kieślowski, Kofta becomes an eminent representative of his generation who embodies striving for freedom and unrestrained expression. The need of liberty was ingrained not only in his songs but also anecdotes and stories about the social life of the intellectual elites.
