Marian Cudny, a railwayman who is put forward as a model of hard work and prudence, caused a minor rail accident 6 months before his retirement. Because of this unfortunate incident, he is not entitled to any formal goodbye ceremony regardless of all his previous services and long-time experience in railway work. Nevertheless, the ceremony was staged for the purpose of the film.
