The film is an adaptation of an excellent novel for children, Emil of Lönneberga, by Astrid Lindgren. The protagonist is an adorable scamp who loves to play tricks on others. His curiosity of the world leads to problems as a result of which the boy is always punished for something. Although his intentions are good, his actions usually end with a disaster. The animation employs the original illustrations of Björn Berg and the narration of Astrid Lindgren herself.
