Olympia Part One: Festival of the Nations

It is not without a reason that Leni Riefenstahl begins her documentation of the Olympic Games in Berlin from a shot of ancient ruins. It was ancient Greece where the Olympics originated, just like the cult of the human body reflected in the beautiful frames of Olympic Games. Because of its historical context, the film is considered controversial today, promoting not just the idea of sports, but also the Third Reich. Nevertheless, it is an undeniable cornerstone of film documentaries on sports.
