He was born in Barcelona and graduated in Filmmaking from the ESCAC Film School (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya). He won more than 130 awards with his previous short-films El Siguiente, Avatar and Yanindara, which brought him Meliès d’Or and was Oscar short-listed. He made his feature film debut in 2014 with Out of the Dark, a ghost story set in Colombia. Lluís Quílez also makes music videos and commercials. He is a lecturer of Film Direction at the ESCAC.
